Don’t’ think about it. If you do, you will give yourself a million reasons why you can’t
What is your business?
I run a Fine Art Portrait Photography Business. I specialize in high school seniors and weddings, I also shoot quite a few family and maternity sessions.
When did you start pursuing your side gig full-time?
I began to work as a full time photographer three years ago. Photography is mostly a weekend job, but it has allowed me to keep a day job in the meantime. I strongly believe that having multiple sources of income is important. Photography brings in most of my income in the Summer. It has allowed me to work in a dental office Tuesday through Thursday and work as a fitness instructor on Monday, Friday and some Saturdays.
What has been the best thing about pursuing your business full-time?
The best thing about running your own business would be that you are your own boss! I love running my own business - I work on my own schedule and I get to run things how I feel best.
What has been the most difficult thing about pursuing your business full-time?
The most difficult thing is allowing myself to take a rest day. On my days off I usually feel guilty if I sit around and watch TV. Most "days off" I am editing photos, emailing brides, planning shoots and bookkeeping. It is hard to find time to breath and allow myself to rest.
What inspires you to keep going when the going gets tough?
I love seeing the images I have taken displayed in homes. This gives me so much joy to know that the moments I captured are cherished forever.
What advice would you give to someone wishing to pursue their business full-time?
Just do it! Don’t think about it. If you do, you will give yourself a million reasons why you can’t. It is best to put yourself in a situation where you are forced to grow and this is when you will see your true potential.
